Stories

The one page you leave behind.

The idea

Explain the object, not the secret.

The most common way a careful arrangement fails is not an attack. It is a relative holding a black card, with no idea that it matters or what to do with it.

So write one page. It says what the card is, what it needs, and who to ask, and it contains no part of your password.

Keep it with your will, your documents or the person who will need it. Not in the same envelope as the card.

Contents

What the page should say.

  1. I

    What it is

“This black card holds encrypted information. It needs a phone with the MI8OS app and one password.”

  2. II

    Where the others are

Say that other copies exist and roughly where, so a single lost card does not end the story.

  3. III

    Who holds the password

Name the person or the arrangement. Never the password itself.

  4. IV

    What it is for

One line: accounts, documents, where things are. Enough motivation to take it seriously.

Keep off the page

Never write these.

The password
Not a hint, not half of it, not a clue only family would get
Balances or values
Turns a note into a reason to look for the card
Account numbers
Those belong inside the vault, not beside it
The card's location
If they have the note, they do not need a map

Explain the door.
Not the key.
