The features we said no to.

Declined

Asked for, deliberately absent.

  1. I

    Cloud backup

It would solve the scariest problem, losing every card, by recreating the thing we set out to avoid: a copy on someone else's computer.

  2. II

    Password recovery

Any door we could open for you is a door that can be opened without you. There is no version of this that stays honest.

  3. III

    A web vault

A browser is the most exposed place your secrets could be decrypted. The app stays on the phone.

  4. IV

    Accounts and profiles

Nothing about writing an encrypted vault to a card requires knowing who you are.

  5. V

    Analytics on your vault

No counts, no names, no “insights”. We do not want the telemetry and you should not want it collected.

  6. VI

    Sharing links

Handing over a secret is a physical act here: give someone a card, or tell them the password. No link to leak.

The cost

Saying no has consequences.

These refusals make MI8OS worse at some things. Lose every card and forget your password, and your vault is gone, there is no appeal.

We would rather that risk be visible and yours than hidden and ours. A product that promises to save you from every mistake has to keep a way in, and that way in is the product's real weakness.

So the honest version: this is a small, sharp tool with edges. Use it for what deserves it, and keep three cards.

No trapdoor,
no exceptions.
