Crossing borders with a wallet.

The trip

Be unremarkable.

Most travel advice is really about attention. A device that looks valuable invites questions; a card among cards does not.

MI8OS asks nothing of the places you pass through. No roaming data, no sign-in over hotel Wi-Fi, no service that has to be reachable from where you are standing.

The practical decision is not technical, it is logistical: which copy travels with you, and which stays home.

Before you go

A short packing routine.

  1. I

    Take one card, not three

One copy travels. The others stay in the places you chose. Losing the trip copy costs you nothing but a rewrite.

  2. II

    Trim the trip vault

You can write a smaller vault for travel: only the secrets you might genuinely need away from home.

  3. III

    Separate card and phone

Different bag, different pocket. One thing being taken should not hand over both halves.

  4. IV

    Rehearse once

Read the card on your phone before you leave, so the first time is not in an airport at midnight.
