About
Every secret
has a story.
MI8OS is a small project built on an old idea: the things that matter most should stay with the people they belong to.
The project
From mythos to MI8OS
The name comes from the Greek μῦθος, mythos: a story, something told. You say it “Mithos”. The Greeks also gave us the word mystery, from myein, to keep closed. Some of their stories were told only to the initiated, and everyone else was left guessing. A good secret still works that way. It exists, and it stays closed to anyone who shouldn’t open it.
Today our most important secrets are digital: recovery phrases, backup codes, the passphrase to an encrypted drive. Most of them live in accounts and clouds we don’t control. At the same time, AI is helping attackers write better phishing, sort through leaked data and guess passwords faster than ever. MI8OS takes the other path. Your phone encrypts the vault before it is written to a card you hold. There is no account, no server and no telemetry, so we never see or store your secrets. Not even MI8OS can open your vault.
The person behind it
Hi, I’m Arrrrrlex
MI8OS started with a question I couldn’t answer well: where do you keep the few secrets that would really hurt to lose? A notes app felt careless, the cloud felt like someone else’s house, and a sheet of paper can be read by anyone who finds it. So I started building my own answer, an encrypted vault on cards you can hold. I still test the cards by hand on real phones, one tap at a time, and the project keeps growing from there.
